BRAT – Day 2 & 3

Yesterday was an optional ride day. I opted not to ride, and went canoeing and hiking in the park instead. We stayed at Fall Creek Falls State Park…..very beautiful park, hilly and forested. We went canoeing on a lake in the park and hiked to the bottom of the waterfall. It is a 256 foot water fall….really pretty. It got down to 48 degrees last night so was a bit cool when we started this morning. Today’s route was 60 miles. Of course we had some significant climbs but also had some great downhills! I even passed an old dump truck on one downhill. One of the toughest sections was a 4 mile continuous climb. The State Park rangers are doing a superb job of providing support for the riders…..always there to provide water, Gatorade, and snacks when you need them. We had lunch in Dayton, TN at a little local diner. We visited their courthouse where the famous Scopes monkey trial was held in 1925. Of course Bob had to sit at the judge’s stand…..lots of funny pictures. I’m surprised they didn’t throw us out. We arrived in Arhens, TN late in the day after 61.5 miles. We are staying at a small city park. They rented several hotel rooms for us to shower in. We all got cleaned up and ate dinner at a Mexican restaurant in town. It was a 3 pickle pack day!
