Today was our first riding day in the Texas Hill Country near Fredericksburg, TX. Our group consists of eight people from Kansas, Missouri, and New York. Everyone arrived yesterday afternoon and we settled into the Big House at the Cotton Gin Village just outside Fredericksburg.
The day started out cloudy and rainy and no one was in a hurry to get out on the bikes. Darwin, Charlotte, Cathy, Colleen and Sonja went out for a short late morning ride and then returned to eat a bite of lunch. Lorraine, Deb and I went into town and ate lunch at the Auslander Restaurant and Biergarten. We restrained ourselves and only went into a few shops. Fredericksburg has a large shopping district with lots of unique stores. We will definately be returning to peruse the wares!
When we returned to the house, the others had already left on their afternoon ride. We finally got on the road about 3:00 and did a short 15 mile loop route. It was a nice ride with some hills and lots of pretty scenery. There was one section where the cattle had free range and some were crossing the road. We had to cross several cattle guards. The other group rode a different route and visited a local winery. We plan on riding more miles tomorrow. The weather looks good for the rest of the week.
