We were not very ambitious today (at least the B-Team wasn’t). The A-Team was out early and ended up doing around 60 miles. Sonja was demoted to the B-Team today and rode with Lorraine, Debbie and I. We didn’t get on our bikes until noon. We rode into Fredericksburg and did a loop to the west for a total of about 30 miles. It was a really scenic route and we decided it was our favorite ride of the trip so far. Lorraine was whining about all the cattle guards but we paid her no mind. We rode through an area with “Loose Livestock” and had to wait for some sheep to cross ahead of us at one point.
When we finished with our ride, we cleaned up and headed into town to do a little shopping. Unfortunately most of the shops closed at 5:30, so we didn’t get to visit many. We planned on eating dinner as a group at the Cabernet Grill. Our reservation wasn’t until 8:30pm, so we had some time to kill. Somehow the B-Team ended up back at the Luckenbach bar. They had a “picker’s circle” group playing outside so we stayed a while to listen. We managed to snag the same table where we’d carved our names the day before. Since we’d biked in the heat of the day, we rehydrated ourselves with some beer as we listened to the musicians.
We returned to our lodging at the Cotton Gin Village and then walked over to the restaurant which is right in the same complex. The meal we had was well worth the wait! We ordered different meals so we could sample several different things. We ordered three desserts to share. My favorite was the deep fried pecan pie with Jack Daniels ice cream……exquisite! We were all in such a food coma after our meal that we pretty much collapsed into our beds when we returned to our house.
